Authorities at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) are in shock after a British national, Fitz Patrick, managed to exit the airport premises without completing immigration formalities. The bizarre incident, which occurred last week, has now triggered a full-blown investigation into the possible security and procedural lapses that allowed such a breach to happen.

According to sources, Fitz Patrick arrived in Delhi from Bangkok on October 28 on a connecting flight bound for London. However, after missing his onward flight, he was supposed to remain within the airport premises until alternate arrangements were made. The next day, immigration officials noticed that he was missing from the transit passenger list prompting an immediate alarm.

CCTV footage reviewed by investigators revealed that the British traveller simply walked out of the arrival terminal, bypassing all immigration counters and formal checks. Shockingly, there was no record of him being cleared at any gate, nor was any alarm raised by airport security at the time of his exit.

The Delhi Police and immigration authorities have since launched a manhunt to locate Fitz Patrick. A case has been registered at the IGI Airport police station, and teams are now scanning city hotels, transport hubs, and embassy databases to trace his whereabouts.

Officials said preliminary findings point toward coordination failures among multiple agencies including immigration, customs, and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). The CISF, however, clarified that their role is confined to the entry and exit gates of the terminal, while passenger clearance within the arrival area is managed by immigration.

This incident has sparked serious questions about passenger monitoring and inter-agency accountability at India’s busiest airport. Experts warn that such lapses could have grave security implications, especially given the global sensitivity surrounding air travel and border management.

Airport authorities have since ordered a review of procedures to ensure tighter coordination and real-time tracking of transit passengers. As the hunt for Fitz Patrick continues, officials admit that the case has exposed a serious blind spot in India’s airport security network one that must be fixed before another traveller slips through the cracks.
