The Cricket West Indies (CWI), has announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022, which was devoid of T20 legend Andre Russell.
New Delhi: West Indies on Wednesday, September 14 announced a 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup in Australia which will be led by explosive wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran. One of the notable omissions from the squad was all-rounder Andre Russell, who was part of their team in the last edition in the UAE.

West Indies T20 World Cup squad for 22 is a sign that the 2-time champions are moving away from the golden generation as the likes of Russell, Kieron Pollard (retired), Dwayne Bravo (retired) and Sunil Narine will not travel with the West Indies.
West Indies Squad for T20 World Cup 2022
Nicholas Pooran (c), Rovman Powell (vc), Yannic Cariah, Johnson Charles, Sheldon Cottrell, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Kyle Mayers, Obed Mccoy, Raymon Reifer, Odean Smith.
Rovman Powell has been named as the vice-captain of the T20 World Cup team which has a good mixed of experience and youth. Star opener Evin Lewis returned to the squad for the first time since the T20 World Cup in the UAE last year.
West Indies have picked wrist-spinner Yannic Cariah and left-arm batting allrounder Raymon Reifer as their two uncapped picks in the 15-man squad.

Senior all-rounder Jason Holder and explosive big-hitter Odeam Smith are in the squad as they look to make up for the absence of Russell.
In Sheldon Cottrell, Alzarri Joseph, and Obed Mccoy, West Indies have firepower in their pace unit. Akeal Hosein and Cariah are the two wrist spinners in the side.
West Indies won the T20 World Cup in 2012 and 2016 and are the only side to have won 2 titles in the shortest format of the game. The former champions were knocked out in the Super 12 last year despite traveling to the UAE with a strong squad led by Kieron Pollard.
