The NMC has arrested Fahim Khan for his alleged involvement in the Nagpur violence and has demolished an unauthorised structure at his residence.
The Municipal Corporation of Maharashtra's Nagpur on Monday took bulldozer action against one of the accused of recent violence in the city which largely erupted due to the contention against removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb.
A team from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) arrived at the residence of Fahim Khan, a key accused in the March 17 Nagpur violence, to demolish an unauthorized structure on his property. Khan, leader of the Minority Democratic Party (MDP), is one of over 100 individuals arrested for the violence, which stemmed from rumors about the burning of a ‘chadar’ with religious inscriptions during a VHP protest.
The NMC had earlier issued a notice to Khan for lacking approval for his building plan. The house, located in Yashodhara Nagar's Sanjay Bagh Colony, is registered under Khan's wife’s name. Currently in jail, Khan faces charges of sedition. The violence left 33 police officers injured, including three Deputy Commissioners of Police. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis stated that damage costs would be recovered from rioters, warning that failure to pay would lead to property seizures. He vowed to take stern action against those responsible.
