As of 5 April, 2025, here are the key financial indices in India:

S&P BSE Sensex:

75,364.36 (down by 1.22%)

Silver rate

₹98,900/kilogram

India's benchmark equity indices ended in the red on April 4, 2025, amid cautious investor sentiment and profit booking in key sectors. The S&P BSE Sensex fell 1.22% to close at 75,364.36, while the Nifty 50 slipped 1.49%, ending the session at 22,904.45.

The Nifty Metal index was hit the hardest, opening 3.2% lower and continuing its downward trend throughout the day. Major companies like Tata Steel and JSW Steel faced substantial losses due to concerns over increased tariffs on metal exports.

The banking sector showed relative resilience compared to others. For instance, HDFC Bank and Bharti Airtel opened with gains, while Bajaj Finance experienced a slight decline of 0.45%, which was still better than the broader market downturn.
