India’s Measured Response to Pahalgam Terror Attack: "Non-Escalatory" Yet Precise

India has responded to the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 tourists, in a "controlled, precise, measured, considered, and non-escalatory" manner, said Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. While briefing reporters in Delhi, Misri emphasized that India’s response was not meant to escalate tensions but was rather a response to Pakistan's provocation, particularly the drone and missile attacks carried out by Pakistan on Wednesday and Thursday.

Misri explained that Pakistan had escalated the situation on April 22, and India's actions were solely aimed at addressing that escalation. In retaliation for the attack, which was claimed by The Resistance Front (TRF), India launched 24 precision missile strikes targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), including facilities linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).

Despite Pakistan's defense of terror infrastructure hit by Indian missiles, Misri pointed out that Pakistan had opposed TRF's involvement in the attack, even though the group had publicly claimed responsibility. He underscored that India's response was strictly targeted at terrorist infrastructure, not military targets.

Misri also highlighted Pakistan’s role as a hub for global terrorism, referencing its harboring of UN-designated terrorists and its history of supporting groups like al-Qaeda. He criticized Pakistan for honoring terrorists with national flags at funerals and state honors.

Earlier, the government revealed that Pakistan had attempted to strike military targets in northern and western India using drones and missiles, which were intercepted by India's defense systems. The debris from these attacks, found at various locations, confirms Pakistan's involvement. Additionally, India reportedly destroyed an air defense system in Lahore as part of its response.
