Shah Rukh Khan’s latest film, “Jawan,” has secured a spot in the top 5 movies at the US Box Office for September 2023 releases. The film, distributed by Yash Raj Films USA Inc., made its debut on September 7 and raked in an impressive total gross of $12,108,639 (₹100 crore) in the United States. What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that “Jawan” accomplished this in just 826 theaters, significantly fewer than its Hollywood counterparts, according to Box Office Mojo.
September 2023 was a highly competitive month at the US Box Office, with “The Equalizer 3” leading the pack, earning a whopping $73,673,848 (₹613 crore). It was closely followed by “The Nun II,” which garnered $56,327,738 (₹469 crore).
Also making its mark on the list was “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3,” securing the fourth spot with a collection of $18,632,245 (₹155 crore). Notably, “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer,” which were released on July 21, continue to hold positions in the top 10 movies for the month of September.
“Jawan” successfully broke into this Hollywood-dominated list, claiming the fifth position among September releases. The film’s exceptional per-theatre earnings, given its limited theatrical presence, serve as a testament to its appeal and the growing influence of Indian cinema on international audiences.
As per early estimates from Sacnilk, “Jawan” earned ₹16 crore on Day 12, bringing its domestic Box Office collection to ₹493.63 crore. The movie has sold 1.15 lakh tickets for Day 13 and is expected to generate ₹2.22 crore in India on its second Tuesday.
Shah Rukh Khan’s latest offering, directed by Atlee, appears poised to surpass Sunny Deol’s August release, “Gadar 2.” The sequel has already amassed ₹520.60 crore in its 39-day run, as reported by Sacnilk.
