Kharge Sanctions New Congress Election Committee in Bihar as Assembly Polls Near

With the Bihar Assembly elections likely around November 2025, the Congress party, under president Mallikarjun Kharge, has moved to sharpen its readiness. On September 16, 2025, Kharge approved formation of a Pradesh Election Committee for the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC), effective immediately.

The committee is sizable: 39 members who will work specifically toward the campaign, election planning, strategy, and execution. But beyond those 39, Congress has added all Members of Parliament (MPs), Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs), Members of Legislative Council (MLCs), All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretaries, Congress Working Committee (CWC) members in Bihar and heads of its front organisations as permanent invitees to the committee. This broad representation signals an attempt to bring together diverse leaders from across the state.

Some of the named leaders include Rajesh Ram (Bihar unit chief), Shakeel Ahmed Khan, Madan Mohan Jha, Rajesh Rathore, Motilal Sharma, Anshul Avijit, Qaiser Ali Khan, Ramesh Prasad Yadav, Shashi Ranjan, Subodh Mandal, Fauzia Rana, and Khushboo Kumari, among others.

The timing is strategic: as alliances are being negotiated, seat sharing is in discussion, and voter mobilization efforts are underway. Congress seems to be institutionalising coordination, so that all wings and voices in Bihar are involved in shaping who contests where, campaign messaging, and outreach.

By formalising this committee, Congress aim is to avoid last-minute chaos, ensure leaders feel included, and push a unified front. Given the political stakes in Bihar, where local leaders and caste equations play a large role, the committee’s breadth may help the party balance its internal interests while projecting organisational strength.
