In a deeply troubling incident that shocks the conscience, Jalandhar rural police have registered an FIR against an 18-year-old young man and his 19-year-old friend. The two have been accused of repeatedly raping the 21-year-old fiancée of the younger accused allegedly after sedating her. Disturbingly, they are also said to have recorded the assaults and circulated the explicit videos on social media.
The victim, reliant on justice despite obstacles, spoke up via a private digital channel, drawing attention to inaction from authorities. Only then did the FIR finally move forward.
Reacting swiftly, the Punjab State Women’s Commission took SUO motu action and urged a thorough investigation. They have directed local police to appoint an officer of Superintendent rank to lead the probe and submit a report by August 22.
According to the police, both accused belong to well-off farming families. The victim shared that after her engagement (which took place last year), she began meeting the accused regularly at family gatherings. The accused introduced his friend during these meetings together, they allegedly began drugging and assaulting her, documenting the assaults.
