Instagram Filters, Money Rues Turn Deadly in UP Murder Case
In a shocking tragedy from Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, a relationship that began on Instagram ended in heartbreak and murder. A 25-year-old woman from Farrukhabad, who had connected with a man online over the past year and a half, had used Instagram filters to appear younger. The man, 26-year-old truck driver Arun Rajput, only realized her actual age and marital status when they met in person.
The pair met a few times after exchanging phone numbers two months ago. Tensions rose when the woman demanded he marry her and return ₹1–1.5 lakh that he had borrowed. Overwhelmed and feeling cornered, Arun succumbed to his frustration. Police say he killed her by strangling her with her dupatta.
Her body was discovered in Kotwali's jurisdiction on August 11, prompting an FIR and investigation. Using call records and digital evidence, police identified Arun as the prime suspect and arrested him soon after. He had shocking calm about his actions, citing “filter deception” and loan repayment pressure as triggers.
This sad case underscores the perils of digital deception, financial entanglements, and unaddressed emotional stress. It serves as a stark reminder: online personas can mask complex truths, and when relationships cross into money and unrealistic expectations, they sometimes spiral into tragedy.
