The question on many lips: after months of non-stop cricket, is Shubman Gill being stretched too thin? Team India’s assistant coach, Sitanshu Kotak, brushed aside such concerns recently, asserting that workload management in Indian cricket is generally meant for fast bowlers, not batsmen.

Gill’s recent calendar has been relentless. He led in a Test series in England, played in the Champions Trophy, followed by a full IPL season with Gujarat Titans, and is now back in the fold for the Asia Cup and a forthcoming Test series versus West Indies. Yet Kotak’s stance is clear: batters are self-regulating, with external checks only if they feel mentally burned out.

When asked about technique adjustments, Kotak said modern players are adept at switching mindsets between formats red-ball practice when needed, white-ball preparation elsewhere. The flexibility, he argued, helps players like Gill manage transitions without compromising performance or wellbeing.

Some fans and commentators wonder if continual cricket across formats can erode form or spark fatigue. In response, the team’s management appears confident: as long as physical health is fine and mental health isn’t suffering, Gill will continue contributing across formats. For now, Kotak believes, the true burden of rota-management lies with pace bowlers.
