In a recent and very disturbing turn, the father of a 23 year old medical student from Odisha has strongly denied the West Bengal Chief Minister’s claim in the gang-rape case. As per reports, the CM said that the student and her male friend were seen outside hostel around 12:30 am.

But the father said his daughter never gone out after midnight. He said the assault took place much early, between 8 and 9 pm, and totally rejected the version that she was out of campus past midnight. He also slammed a comment supposedly made by the CM that women “should not be out at night,” calling it hurtful and careless, especially from a woman leader herself.

Officials from Odisha government who went to West Bengal to check on the case said they were satisfied with the investigation so far. Within just 36 hours, police had arrested three people and caught one more suspect. The Odisha team, including members from the state women commission, promised to give full emotional and legal help to the survivor.

This case shows how public comment can change people’s opinion and even affect how an inquiry moves. The father’s firm stand on the timeline shows why real evidence is more important than guess or rumor, specially in such sensitive issues.

At a time when talk around gender, safety, and justice is full of division, it’s very important that probe stay fair and based on fact. The survivor should get safety, care, and proper hearing. Beyond headlines, what truly matters is that law work equal for all and truth come out without politics or wrong idea.
