Delhi Police apprehended a notorious criminal after a brief shootout in the Ghazipur area of east Delhi, officials reported on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. The accused, Khemchand (35), a resident of Seelampur in northeast Delhi, had been on the run and was wanted in more than a dozen criminal cases. Acting on specific intelligence, police set up a trap in the paper market locality to catch him. When officers attempted to arrest him and asked him to surrender, Khemchand allegedly opened fire on them. In response, the police returned fire, injuring him in the leg. He was then taken into custody. Authorities stated that he had been evading arrest for a significant period. His injuries are reportedly non-life-threatening, and he is currently undergoing treatment under police supervision.
