Cyclone Montha Intensifies Andhra Pradesh and Odisha Brace for Landfall

A deep low pressure system formed in Bay of Bengal has growed fast into what now expected to be a strong cyclonic storm called Cyclone Montha. The landfall is likely between Machilipatnam and Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh on the evening of October 28, causing red alert in many parts of Andhra and also Odisha.

Officials in coastal areas like Kakinada, East Godavari and West Godavari are already making arrangements of evacuation shelters, closing schools, asking fishermen not go to sea and keeping relief supply ready. In Odisha, seven district now under red warning for possible heavy rain and wind damage.

Wind may blow around 90 to 100 km per hour, even touching 110 km per hour when Montha hit the land. Along with heavy rainfall, there also chance of sea water flooding and storm surge that can danger low area villages.

For people living near the coast, next few days bringing nervous waiting. Preparations are being done early fishing boats pulled back, power backups made ready, and weak groups like old people and pregnant women are being shifted to safer side.

What worrying many is how fast the storm turning strong, and even inland area may get heavy rain, flood and landslide. Many road can break, power may go down, and farmers or small business depending on weather can lose much.

This is not only about weather, it also a people story. Families rushing to shelters, children not going school, and daily life almost stopping. Everyone now depend on how well government manage the crisis. For many, it’s about keeping safe till the storm pass.

As Tuesday evening coming close, main focus stay on saving life, keeping home safe and start quick recovery after storm gone. Authorities again warning if told to evacuate, please do it. Stay away from sea and don’t take storm lightly. Because storms not only destroy houses and trees, they show how strong and together we really are when nature test us.
