CP Radhakrishnan Sworn In as India’s 15th Vice-President in Grand Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan

CP on 12 September 2025 Radhakrishnan formally took over as Vice President of India. The swearing -in ceremony was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where President Droupadi Murmu administered him the oath. Leaders from all over the country were present on the occasion. Many dignitaries including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh attended the function. Former Vice Presidents Jagdeep Dhankhar, M. Venkaiah Naidu and Hamid Ansari were also present.

NDA candidate Radhakrishnan won the Vice Presidential election by winning 452 votes, while the opposition candidate and former Supreme Court Judge B.K. Sudershan Reddy got 300 votes. This election became necessary when the then Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar suddenly resigned due to health reasons.

The date of September 12 was selected keeping in mind the auspicious time according to the Hindu calendar traditions for the swearing -in ceremony. Following the formal oath, Vice President Radhakrishnan paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi in Rajghat, underlining the continuity of democratic traditions and respect for the values of India. Senior leaders of various states also attended the ceremony, including Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N.K. Chandrababu Naidu was the chief. His presence further clarified the importance of the post of Vice President in India's constitutional structure.

Now Radhakrishnan is managing the responsibility of this post in a historic moment. They are expected to contribute to the proceedings of Parliament and represent the country in diplomatic relations as per the responsibilities of the Vice President.
