In a deeply disturbing incident from Gujarat’s Aravalli district, a 13 year old girl has tragically died after suffering grievous injuries allegedly inflicted by a man wielding a sickle. The attack, described by local authorities as sudden and violent, has shaken the community and brought into sharp focus the vulnerability of children in rural areas.
The incident occurred in a village in Modasa taluka, where the teenager was reportedly attacked on December 18. According to police reports, she was struck on her private parts with a sickle, a chilling and extremely brutal act that left her critically injured. She was immediately rushed for medical treatment, first to hospitals in Modasa and Himmatnagar, then to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, and later shifted back to Himmatnagar Civil Hospital. Despite prolonged medical efforts and multiple transfers, she succumbed to her injuries on Friday.
Police have confirmed that a 35 year old man, known to the victim, has been arrested in connection with the attack. Authorities are investigating the exact motive behind the crime, which has left both residents and officials deeply disturbed. While early findings suggest the accused and the girl were acquainted, investigators have not yet disclosed the precise nature of their relationship.
The case has been registered under stringent sections of the law that deal with serious sexual violence. Officials have indicated that the charges may be strengthened further to include murder as the investigation progresses. Senior police officers are overseeing the probe and have assured that no leniency will be shown in ensuring justice.
The incident has sparked outrage among local residents and social activists, who describe it as a grim reminder of the dangers faced by young girls, particularly in rural pockets. Members of the community gathered outside the hospital to hold a silent vigil, lighting candles and offering prayers in memory of the child. “No family should ever go through such suffering,” said a local resident. “Children deserve safety and dignity.”
The tragedy comes at a time when crimes against minors continue to draw national concern. While authorities stress stricter enforcement of laws, civil society voices underline the need for stronger community awareness, education, and preventive measures to protect children from violence.
Police have appealed to the public to come forward with any information that may assist the investigation as it continues.
